Fishery Report for Spring and Summer fishing 2024
The late Spring and early Summer fishing has been very good this year. The fishing went through to early June but ended abruptly due to a drop in oxygen levels and rising water temperatures. Very few fish were caught in June and at the time of writing conditions are not expected to improve now until September.
A Social Day was held in mid April. The fishing was difficult on a rather cold day but nonetheless those who persevered had reasonable Returns. The fish were in good condition and ranged between two and a half pounds to a few around the five pound mark. Lunch was held in our Marque and with a good lunch as well as a few prizes a good day was had by all.
The Lord de L’Isle trophy had been refurbished prior to presentation and during lunch the resplendent Cup was awarded to Mike Bartley for his help with working parties as well as his skill at catching fish and passing on tips (and flies) to other Anglers.
The Committee will be organizing some working parties during the Summer to tackle the excessive weed growth in both Lakes. Due to inclement weather and a low turnout of members in the Autumn of 2023 it was not possible to address the issue satisfactorily but hopefully if we have enough members available the work should be finished by the time fishing recommences in September.
Membership has remained strong and we have accepted several new members during the summer period. We look forward to welcoming them to the Syndicate when they join in September.
Tight lines everyone.
