Spring/Summer Fishery Report 2021

The early season fishing saw some excellent fishing and with the varied weather at that time members were able to fish well into June. The fishing tailed off through July and the anglers who persevered through into the doldrums of August found their efforts were not rewarded with any taking fish.

The stocking policy in the first half of the year included smaller fish at around 2 pounds and a few surprise ones up to and slightly over 4 pounds. This approach may well be continued in the Autumn.

As a result of the gradual lifting of Covid restrictions, the Committee felt that the system of booking fishing times etc. should continue. On the whole, this worked well and The Committee are very pleased that the members have acted sensibly and responsibly throughout these tricky times and have also been patient over the limitations placed upon them with regard to access to the hut and booking times etc.

Regretfully, but unavoidably, some of our summer projects are running behind schedule but it is hoped to particularly put in place the leaky dams upstream of Lake 1 during late Summer or early Autumn.

The grass around the lakes has now been cut and with the water levels in both lakes at a good height, members can hopefully look forward to some good Autumn fishing now the air and water temperature levels are settling down.

It is likely that the booking system will remain in place for the time being but members will be notified if any changes are made. The current Catch Report procedures will also remain in place as the hut will continue to be off-limits. Working parties are being organized during the coming months to help keep the Lakes and their surroundings in good order.
