Fishery Report 2022 and Prospects for 2023

The early part of the season promised some excellent fishing which appeared to bode well for the early Summer.
How wrong can you be!
With air temperatures suddenly climbing off the scale and water temperatures rising rapidly to over 22 degrees the fishing abruptly ceased and the fish were nowhere to be seen or caught.
As we all know these temperatures went on right through to the end of September and although the Lakes were stocked around this time the Autumn fishing started very slowly. Gradually the catch Returns improved and even with continuing changes in the weather by the end of December both Lakes were showing signs of returning to normality. At the time of writing this Report the Catch Returns and the Lakes (dare I say it) are looking very good.
As a result of the removal of Covid restrictions, the Committee have now ceased the online booking system and returned to the less cumbersome arrangements of a Log Book in the Fishing Hut.
The lack of fishing has however given us opportunities to catch up with some of our deferred jobs on and around the Lakes. The working parties carried out some excellent work and the Committee would like to take this opportunity of thanking all the members who volunteered to help with these tasks.
In so far as we can ascertain from talking to members of other clubs and commercial still water fisheries 2022 was difficult for everyone but with our Lakes at present looking in good condition we hope for a much improved 2023.
Membership has remained strong but we do have a few vacancies for the current season which we are hoping to fill in the next few weeks and in time for our March Social Day fixed for 18th March.
